Brer Rabbit
CharacterDescription
Brer Rabbit is a trickster folk hero originating in African-American oral tradition and recorded by journalist Joel Chandler Harris in his 1881 Uncle Remus collection. The character relies on wit and cunning to outsmart stronger adversaries, particularly Brer Fox and Brer Bear, rather than physical force. Disney adapted him for the 1946 film Song of the South and published comics featuring him through a Sunday newspaper strip that ran from 1945 to 1972.
