Knothead is the nephew of Woody Woodpecker, appearing regularly in Walter Lantz comic books published by Dell. Originally introduced under the name Nuthead in 1952, he was renamed Knothead in 1956 when his sister Splinter's character was also revised. The two young woodpeckers are often placed in the care of their uncle Woody, leading to comedic adventures in Woody Woodpecker comics.
