Splinter is the niece of Woody Woodpecker, introduced in Walter Lantz comic books published by Dell. First appearing in 1952 alongside her brother Knothead under the name of a boy, she was redefined as Woody's niece and renamed Splinter in 1956. The two young woodpeckers frequently land in Woody's care, providing comic material across the long run of Woody Woodpecker comics.
