Samm Schwartz was an American cartoonist who joined MLJ Comics in 1942 and devoted much of his career to Archie Comics, where he became the defining artist of Jughead Jones. Schwartz pencilled, inked, and lettered much of his own work, helping elevate Jughead from a supporting character to a solo title star. He also designed Big Ethel, one of the character's most recognizable foils. After a stint at Tower Comics in 1965, he returned to Archie in the 1970s and worked there until his death.
