Tetsu Kariya is a Japanese manga writer born in Beijing in 1941 who studied at Tokyo University and worked in advertising before debuting in manga in 1974. He is best known for Oishinbo, a food-focused series written with artist Akira Hanasaki and serialized in Big Comic Spirits from 1983 to 2014. The series sold over 135 million volumes and won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1987.
