Kazuo Umezu was a Japanese manga artist who began his career in the 1950s and became one of the most influential figures in horror manga. Known as the "god of horror manga," his work combined dramatic visual imagery with themes drawn from Japanese folklore. His best-known series, The Drifting Classroom, won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1974. He continued creating manga until retiring in the mid-1990s due to tendonitis.
