Shimoku Kio
Biography
Shimoku Kio is a Japanese manga artist who debuted professionally in 1994 while studying Nihonga painting at the University of Tsukuba. His first serialized work, Yonensei, ran from 1997 to 1998 and was followed by its sequel Gonensei. He is best known for Genshiken, serialized in Kodansha's Afternoon from 2002 to 2006, a realistic portrait of an otaku culture club that spawned anime adaptations and spin-offs. His later work includes Hashikko Ensemble and Spotted Flower.
