Wataru Watanabe is a Japanese manga artist, born in 1971 in Nagasaki Prefecture. He made his professional debut with one-shots in Weekly Shonen Jump before Yowamushi Pedal began serialization in Weekly Shonen Champion in 2008. The cycling sports manga had over 28 million copies in circulation by 2022 and won the Kodansha Manga Award for best shonen in 2015. Watanabe is an avid cyclist and regularly documents his rides in the manga's extra pages.
