Alfredo Alcala was a renowned artist from the Philippines, gaining fame with his own creation, Voltar, in 1963. His success in the Philippines led him to the American comic book industry in the early 1970s, where he worked for nearly three decades. Alcala is particularly recognized for his contributions to Marvel Comics, especially on the Savage Sword of Conan series, and for his work on horror and war comics at DC Comics, including titles like Swamp Thing and Detective Comics.
