Paul Gustavson was a Finnish-American comic book writer and artist born in Åland who emigrated to the United States as a child. He entered comics in the late 1930s and created the Angel, who debuted in Marvel Comics #1 in 1939 and appeared in more than 100 stories during the Golden Age. Gustavson joined Quality Comics in 1941, where he created the Human Bomb and the Spider, and also contributed to Uncle Sam, Blackhawk, and Kid Eternity.
