IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog relaunched the comic in 2018 with writer Ian Flynn after Sega moved the license from Archie Comics. Set largely after the fall of Dr. Eggman's empire, it follows Sonic and his allies rebuilding a fractured world while new threats emerge. Flynn treats the games as a loose backdrop rather than strict canon, giving the ongoing series room to build its own storylines and cast.
