Absolute Batman is the first title in DC's Absolute Universe imprint, written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Nick Dragotta. The series began publication on October 9, 2024, and became the best-selling comic of 2024, selling just under 400,000 copies.
In this reimagined universe, Bruce Wayne is a 24-year-old blue-collar civil engineer who operates at night to fight crime as the vigilante Batman. Without the mansion, without the money, and without the butler, what's left is the Absolute Dark Knight!
Bruce grows up blue-collar in Crime Alley and is friends with many of the characters who are his villains in the main universe. He designs his own equipment and armor while being stalked by MI6 agent Alfred Pennyworth.
Gotham City is under siege by the Party Animals, young adults wearing animal masks who have brought violence and anarchy to the city, led by the criminal mastermind Roman Sionis (The Black Mask). Alfred Pennyworth has been sent to Gotham City to investigate this terrorist group.
The series has been praised as "a bold reinvention" of the character and "a masterwork of action storytelling."
