DESCRIPTION

Published in 2007 by Marvel Comics, 'World War Hulk' was a major crossover event written by Greg Pak with art by John Romita Jr. The storyline follows the events of 'Planet Hulk,' where the Hulk, exiled to the planet Sakaar by the Illuminati, returns to Earth seeking vengeance after the destruction of his new home and the death of his wife. The Hulk, now more powerful and angrier than ever, leads an army of his fellow gladiators from Sakaar to confront the heroes of Earth, particularly targeting those responsible for his exile: Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Mister Fantastic, and Black Bolt. The event spans multiple series, including the main 'World War Hulk' five-issue miniseries, and tie-ins across various Marvel titles such as 'Incredible Hulk,' 'Avengers: The Initiative,' and 'X-Men.' The storyline is notable for its intense battles, particularly between Hulk and Earth's mightiest heroes, and its exploration of themes like betrayal and revenge. It had significant repercussions in the Marvel Universe, affecting the status quo of several characters and leading to subsequent storylines. 'World War Hulk' was generally well-received for its action-packed narrative and character development.
