Earning Points (XP) for Contributions
What it is
Every time you contribute to VerseDB by editing content, you can earn points — called XP. XP is awarded when your submission is approved, and the amount depends on what you edited and how complex it was.
What gives you XP?
You can earn XP by submitting edits to any of the following:
- Titles
- Series (Volumes)
- Issues
- Characters
- Creators
- Publishers
XP is only awarded once your submission is approved by an admin.
How XP is calculated
XP is based on a few different factors:
- Content Type – Different entities (like Issues vs. Characters) may have different base XP values
- Field Type – Some fields are worth more than others (e.g., uploading an image vs. changing a name)
- Field Complexity – Fields marked as complex give more XP than simple fields
- Priority Multiplier – Some edits may have higher importance and earn bonus XP
Admins don’t manually assign XP — it’s automatically calculated using these rules behind the scenes.
Example (Simplified)
- Submitting an edit = +10 XP
- Adding an image (complex field) = bonus XP
- Priority field = additional multiplier
> Final XP earned depends on how the configuration is set for that field + approval status
Tips & Troubleshooting
- Focus on quality edits — those are more likely to get approved and earn points
- You can submit as many edits as you want, but only approved ones earn XP
- XP is tracked and shown in your dashboard under your level and recent contributions
> Note: The exact XP values may change over time if the VerseDB team adjusts reward configurations.
