VerseDB is built by collectors, for collectors. The community contributes corrections, missing data, and improvements—making the database more accurate for everyone.
Here's how to get involved.
What You Can Edit
VerseDB supports edits across all major content types:
- Characters — names, aliases, descriptions, first appearances, photos
- Series — names, descriptions, year ranges, cover images
- Issues — titles, descriptions, release dates, covers
- Titles — franchise-level information
- Creators — names, bios, photos
- Publishers — names, descriptions, logos
- Story Arcs — names, descriptions, reading order
- Teams — names, descriptions, rosters
To edit, click "Edit Content" on any page, select a field, enter the correct info, and submit.
The Review Process
Every edit goes through moderation before it's applied:
- Submit — Your edit enters pending status
- Review — A moderator compares old vs new values
- Decision — Approved edits go live; rejected edits include feedback
- History — Every change is logged permanently
Anyone can view the edit history for any content—who changed what, when, and what it used to say.
Editing Relationships
Beyond text fields, you can edit how content connects:
Creator Credits — Add writers, pencillers, inkers, colorists, letterers, cover artists, and editors to issues.
Character Appearances — Link characters to issues, mark first appearances.
Story Arc Connections — Connect issues to story arcs with sequence numbers and tie-in markers.
Team Rosters — Add or remove characters from teams.
For more on how VerseDB structures this data, see How We Catalog Comics.
Image Uploads
Have a clean cover scan or creator photo? You can upload images too.
- Formats: JPEG, PNG, or WebP
- Maximum: 10MB per file
- Same review process as text edits
Earning XP
Contributing earns you XP. The more you contribute, the higher you level.
You earn XP from:
- Approved content edits
- Writing reviews
- Replying to reviews
- Tier list vote milestones
XP amounts vary by activity and are configured by moderators. Quality matters—approved edits earn more than submissions alone.
Leveling Up
As you accumulate XP, you level up. VerseDB has 100 levels, each with a unique title—from Bystander at level 1 to The One Above All at level 100.
Higher levels unlock abilities. At level 5, you gain auto-approval for basic edits, skipping the review queue for simple corrections.
Your level displays on your profile, showing the community your contribution history.
Conflict Prevention
VerseDB uses content locking to prevent edit collisions:
- When you start editing, you acquire a temporary lock
- Other users see the field is being edited
- When you submit or cancel, the lock releases
- Abandoned edits time out automatically
Getting Started
Step 1: Browse any page and look for missing descriptions, incorrect dates, typos, or missing credits.
Step 2: Click "Edit Content" and select the field you want to fix.
Step 3: Enter the correct information and submit.
Step 4: Wait for review. When approved, your change goes live and you earn XP.
Tips for Quality Contributions
- Be specific — Edit one field at a time
- Be accurate — Verify information before submitting
- Match the style — Look at how similar entries are written
- Cite sources — Base edits on facts, not memory
FAQ
What if my edit is rejected? You'll receive notes explaining why. Learn from the feedback and try again.
Can I see my contribution history? Yes. Your profile shows all submitted edits, their status, and XP earned.
What's the fastest way to level up? Focus on quality. Approved edits earn significantly more XP than rejected ones. Write reviews while waiting for approvals.
Ready to contribute? Pick any page and click "Edit Content." Every accurate edit makes VerseDB more useful for collectors and readers.
