Alex Raymond created Flash Gordon for King Features, and the strip began on January 7, 1934, as an answer to Buck Rogers. A Yale polo player, Flash is rocketed to the planet Mongo with Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkov to take on Ming the Merciless. Raymond's art set the bar for adventure strips.
