Mandrake the Magician is the title character of the syndicated newspaper comic strip created by Lee Falk, which began publication on June 11, 1934. Mandrake uses hypnotic gestures and powerful illusions to combat crime and a diverse rogues' gallery including gangsters, mad scientists, and interdimensional villains. Regarded by some comics historians as the first superhero in the medium, the strip ran for decades under Falk's writing with art by Phil Davis and later Fred Fredericks, continuing until 2013.
