Lee Falk created Mandrake the Magician for a syndicated newspaper strip that began on June 11, 1934 and ran until 2013, drawn by Phil Davis and later Fred Fredericks. Mandrake fights crime with hypnotic gestures and illusions. Some historians call him the medium's first superhero.
