Cole Cantrell, called Latigo after a piece of saddle tack, is the frontier lawman of Stan Lynde's newspaper strip, which ran from 1979 to 1983. The son of a mountain man and a Crow mother, he served in the Union Army before going west as a marshal. Lynde gave the dailies long, serious continuities.
