Korky the Cat
Description
Korky the Cat is a British comics character who first appeared in issue #1 of The Dandy on December 4, 1937. He was originally drawn by James Crighton, who illustrated the strip for 25 years.
Korky is an anthropomorphic black cat who lives in a world of humans, engaging in slapstick adventures and comic schemes. Originally a mute character, he began speaking in 1940. The 1950s saw the introduction of his "Kits" (Nip, Lip, and Rip), expanding the cast.
Korky served as The Dandy's cover star and mascot for 47 years until 1984, when he was replaced on the front cover by Desperate Dan. The character was briefly retired in 2004 after receiving no votes in a readers' poll but returned in 2005 with new artwork. Korky remains one of the longest-running characters in British comics history, with appearances spanning nearly seven decades.
