Lucky Luke
Description
Lucky Luke is a Franco-Belgian comics character created by Belgian cartoonist Morris (Maurice De Bevere) in 1946. He is the star of the best-selling European comics series of all time, with over 300 million copies sold worldwide.
Lucky Luke is a lone cowboy who travels the American Old West on his intelligent horse Jolly Jumper, accompanied by his dim-witted dog Rantanplan. He is known as "the man who shoots faster than his shadow" and serves as both a tribute to and a parody of classic Western archetypes. His recurring adversaries include the Dalton brothers, a quartet of outlaw siblings of varying height.
Morris wrote and drew the series alone until 1955, when he began collaborating with Rene Goscinny (co-creator of Asterix) on the scripts. Their partnership produced many of the series' most acclaimed albums and lasted until Goscinny's death in 1977. The series has continued with other writers and, since Morris's death in 2001, other artists. Lucky Luke has been translated into over 30 languages.
