Spip

Spip is Spirou's pet red squirrel and a central character in the Belgian comic series Spirou et Fantasio. First introduced in 1939 and developed into a core cast member under artist Jijé, Spip provides sardonic running commentary on the events around him, though humans in the story cannot understand him. His name is a diminutive of 'spirou,' the Walloon dialect word for squirrel.
