Spike is a large American bulldog and recurring character in the Tom and Jerry franchise created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, first appearing in the 1942 cartoon Dog Trouble. A protective father to his puppy son Tyke, he is often caught in the crossfire of Tom and Jerry's chases.
