Al Capp
Biography
Al Capp was an American cartoonist and satirist born Alfred Gerald Caplin on September 28, 1909, in New Haven, Connecticut. He created the comic strip Li'l Abner in 1934, setting stories in the fictional Appalachian town of Dogpatch and using the strip to deliver sharp social and political commentary for over four decades. At its peak the strip reached an estimated 60 million readers in more than 900 newspapers worldwide. Capp died on November 5, 1979.
