Description
Joe Chill is the mugger who murdered Thomas and Martha Wayne in front of their young son Bruce in DC Comics, the event that drove Bruce to eventually become Batman. He first appeared in Batman #47 in 1948. Despite possessing no superhuman abilities, he is one of the most consequential characters in the Batman mythos, as his act of violence is the direct cause of Batman's origin, and his existence poses the question of what Bruce would do if he ever found his parents' killer.
