Pinocchio is the wooden puppet who longs to become a real boy in Carlo Collodi's 1883 Italian novel, adapted into one of Disney's most celebrated animated films in 1940. The Disney version, featuring the cricket Jiminy Cricket as his conscience and the whale Monstro among his antagonists, was the basis for comics published by Dell in the 1940s and later Disney comics collections. The character's design from the Disney adaptation has defined his global popular image across subsequent decades.
