Description

Spike is a large American bulldog and recurring character in the Tom and Jerry animated franchise created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, first appearing in the 1942 theatrical cartoon Dog Trouble. A protective father to his puppy son Tyke, he is frequently caught in the crossfire of Tom and Jerry's chases while attempting to keep the peace. He starred in a long-running comics series through Dell Publishing's Tom and Jerry Comics beginning in February 1951.
