Mama Katzenjammer is the long-suffering mother of the mischievous twins Hans and Fritz in The Katzenjammer Kids, one of the oldest continuously running American newspaper comic strips, debuting in 1897. Created by Rudolph Dirks and later continued by Harold Knerr, the strip centers on the relentless pranks the boys inflict on Mama, der Captain, and other authority figures. She is among the earliest recurring female characters in American comics, remaining a fixture of the strip across its exceptionally long publication history.
