Sylvester the Cat is a Warner Bros. Looney Tunes character who first appeared in the 1945 short Life With Feathers and was formally named in the 1948 short Scaredy Cat. He is an anthropomorphic tuxedo cat best known for his relentless but unsuccessful pursuit of the canary Tweety Bird. Sylvester appeared in 103 theatrical short films, making him one of the most prominent Looney Tunes characters, and three of those films won Academy Awards. His trademark exclamation is 'Sufferin' succotash!' voiced throughout his early career by Mel Blanc.
