The New Avengers are a Marvel super-team launched in 2004 by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Finch. The group forms after the classic Avengers disband, when a mass breakout at the supervillain prison known as the Raft throws a mismatched set of heroes together. Choosing to stay a team, they investigate who engineered the escape. The founding lineup pairs marquee names like Captain America, Iron Man, and Spider-Man with grittier figures such as Luke Cage and Spider-Woman. The title marked a shift toward a smaller, more character-driven Avengers built around personal chemistry.
