Jervis Tetch, the Mad Hatter, is a recurring villain in Batman's rogues gallery. First appearing in Batman #49 in 1948, Tetch is a scientist with an obsession with Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland who builds mind-control technology concealed within hats. He uses these devices to dominate victims and fuel his fixation on recreating scenes from Carroll's story, making him one of Batman's more psychologically distinctive adversaries.
