Li'l Abner

Li'l Abner is the title character of an American newspaper comic strip created by cartoonist Al Capp that ran from 1934 to 1977. A large, naive, and good-natured hillbilly from the fictional mountain community of Dogpatch, Kentucky, he is surrounded by an eccentric cast including his mother Mammy Yokum and his wife Daisy Mae. The strip was widely known for its political and social satire and at its peak ran in approximately 900 newspapers worldwide.
