Nancy is a precocious, resourceful young girl and the title character of the American newspaper comic strip created by Ernie Bushmiller. Originally a supporting character in the Fritzi Ritz strip, she proved popular enough that Bushmiller renamed the feature for her in 1938. Her best friend is the street-smart Sluggo Smith, and her adventures are told in a deadpan, gag-driven style that has influenced generations of cartoonists.
