Description

Sluggo Smith is a streetwise, good-natured orphan boy and the best friend of Nancy in Ernie Bushmiller's newspaper comic strip Nancy, where he has appeared since the strip's early years. Rough around the edges but fundamentally kind, he lives without parental supervision and provides an earthy counterpoint to Nancy's suburban life. The strip, originally called Fritzi Ritz, shifted focus to Nancy in 1938, and Sluggo became one of its defining characters.
