Garfield
Description
Garfield is a comic strip character created by Jim Davis. He first appeared on June 19, 1978, and the strip has been syndicated continuously since, making it one of the most widely distributed comic strips in the world.
Garfield is a lazy, cynical, orange tabby cat who lives with his owner Jon Arbuckle and fellow pet Odie, a dim but enthusiastic beagle. He is defined by his obsession with eating (particularly lasagna), sleeping, and tormenting Odie and the mailman. His disdain for Mondays and diets are recurring themes.
The strip has been adapted into multiple animated television series, feature films, and video games. Garfield has also appeared in comic books published by Boom! Studios and other publishers. At its peak, the strip appeared in over 2,500 newspapers worldwide, and Garfield merchandise has generated billions of dollars in retail sales, making him one of the most commercially successful comic strip characters in history.
