Biography
Japanese manga artist born in Tokyo in 1952. Akimoto is best known for Kochikame, a comedy series set at a Tokyo police box that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1976 to 2016 across 200 volumes — a Guinness World Record for most volumes in a single manga series. The series sold over 155 million copies. Akimoto received the Kikuchi Kan Prize and the Medal with Purple Ribbon for his contributions to manga.
