Al Hartley was an American comic book writer and artist who worked across several decades for Atlas Comics and Archie Comics. He is best known for his central role in launching Spire Christian Comics in the 1970s, a line that produced 59 comics, including licensed Archie titles, with total sales exceeding 40 million copies. Hartley received the Inkpot Award at San Diego Comic-Con in 1980.
