Alex Raymond

Biography

Alex Raymond (1909-1956) was an American cartoonist who created three syndicated adventure strips in January 1934, Flash Gordon, Jungle Jim, and Secret Agent X-9, the last written by Dashiell Hammett. He later created the detective strip Rip Kirby. Raymond's realistic style and feathered shading influenced generations of adventure cartoonists. He won the Reuben Award in 1949 and was inducted into the Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
