Rex Mason is Metamorpho the Element Man, a DC Comics character who first appeared in The Brave and the Bold #57 in 1965, created by Bob Haney and Ramona Fradon. A globe-trotting soldier of fortune, Mason was sent to retrieve an Egyptian artifact called the Orb of Ra in a mission secretly designed to eliminate him. Exposure to the radioactive meteorite relic transformed him, granting the ability to transmute any part of his body into chemical elements or compounds. He cannot return to his original human appearance and much of his story involves seeking a cure.
