Alfred Pennyworth

Alfred Pennyworth is Bruce Wayne's butler, confidant, and surrogate father figure. A former British intelligence operative and trained field medic, he brought those skills into Wayne Manor when he entered the family's service.

Alfred maintains the Batcave, provides medical treatment after missions, and offers tactical and emotional counsel to Bruce and the wider Bat-Family. His background in acting has occasionally proved useful for undercover work.

He first appeared in Batman #16 (1943) and has been a constant presence in Batman's world across comics, film, and television.
