Jeff Lemire and Doug Mahnke deliver a dark future vision of Swamp Thing in this three issue DC Black Label limited series for mature readers. It reads as a companion to Lemire's earlier work on Animal Man and the wider mythology of the Green, the Red, and the Rot.
The story is set on a dying Earth where humanity is nearly gone and the elemental Parliaments have turned against the survivors. A monstrous new Swamp Thing avatar is raised to finish them off, and John Constantine brings back Alec Holland to stand in its way. Mahnke's detailed, grim artwork matches the apocalyptic tone.
Published by DC Comics between 2021 and 2023, the run offers a bleak, standalone take on the character.
