Description
Weekly Shōnen Sunday is a Japanese shōnen manga anthology published by Shogakukan, first released on 17 March 1959. It was created as a direct competitor to Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine, which launched the same week.
The debut issue carried work by Osamu Tezuka and put a famous baseball player on its cover, setting an early tone of sports and adventure storytelling. Each issue serializes several manga for a teenage readership, with installments later compiled into book volumes.
Despite its name, the magazine is released on Wednesdays, and it remains one of Japan's major weekly manga titles.
