Captain America Comics debuted in 1941, created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. The series launched with an iconic cover of Captain America punching Adolf Hitler, a bold political statement months before the U.S. entered World War II.
The series followed Steve Rogers, a scrawny recruit transformed into the super-soldier Captain America, and his sidekick Bucky Barnes. Together they battled Nazi agents, fifth columnists, and supervillains. Early issues introduced key villains like the Red Skull.
Sales declined in the 1950s as superhero popularity waned, leading to cancellation after issue #75. Captain America's legacy was revived in the 1960s and remains central to the Marvel Universe.
