Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks for Universal in 1927, ahead of Mickey Mouse. He starred in theatrical shorts until 1938, and a 1928 contract dispute cost Disney the character and led to Mickey. The rights returned to Disney in 2006.
