1960s FAQ

Why do so many Marvel titles start in the 1960s?
Marvel built its shared universe in this window, beginning with Fantastic Four in 1961 and adding Spider-Man, the Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, the X-Men, and the Avengers over the following three years.
What is the Silver Age?
The period beginning with DC's 1956 revival of the Flash in Showcase #4, when superheroes returned after the Code-era shift into other genres. Most 1960s series fall inside it.
Why do some 1960s runs start at a high issue number?
Publishers often kept the numbering of the book a title replaced rather than starting over. A series can debut its new direction at issue 39 because the anthology it took over had already run that long.
