Shadowman (1992)
Shadowman is the first ongoing series to feature the New Orleans hero of the same name, published by Valiant as part of the original Valiant Universe. Jack Boniface is a jazz musician whose life changes after a violent night encounter leaves him marked by a supernatural force rooted in voodoo tradition. When darkness falls he is driven to prowl the city and confront the predators who prey on it.
The run was launched by writers Jim Shooter and Steve Englehart with artist David Lapham, and later carried by Bob Hall as writer and artist. Its stories mix street level horror with the mysticism of the bayou, setting Boniface against occult threats including the necromancer Master Darque.
The series also ties into wider Valiant crossovers such as Unity and The Chaos Effect, linking Shadowman to heroes like Solar, X-O Manowar, and the Eternal Warrior. It ran for forty three regular issues plus a zero issue between 1992 and 1995.
