A limited series runs for a set number of issues, announced up front and finished on schedule — four, six, twelve, sometimes more. Watchmen, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and most modern event books are limited series. The format lets a story end rather than continue indefinitely, which is why so much of the medium's best-known work uses it. - Is a limited series the same as a mini-series?
- Yes. Both describe a run sold with a planned ending, and publishers use the two names interchangeably. VerseDB files them as limited series.
- What is a maxiseries?
- An informal label for a longer limited run, usually twelve issues or more. It is still a limited series and is catalogued as one here.
- Do limited series get collected?
- Nearly always, and often in more than one format. The collected edition is a separate series entry, so you can track the single issues, the trade, or both.
