Spawn

An Image Comics character created by Todd McFarlane, debuting in Spawn #1 in 1992 and headlining one of the longest-running creator-owned superhero series in American comics. Al Simmons is a former CIA assassin murdered on assignment, who returns from Hell after striking a deal with the demon lord Malebolgia to see his wife again. The price is service as a Hellspawn, granting him a sentient symbiotic suit, the ability to teleport, regenerate, and reshape matter, all powered by a finite supply of necroplasmic energy. Spawn's stories interweave urban crime, occult horror, and a long war among heaven, hell, and the human characters caught between them.
