American cartoonist (1913–1973) who worked as an animator for Disney on Snow White, Pinocchio, and Fantasia before moving to Dell Comics. He is best known for creating Pogo, a politically satirical strip set in the Okefenokee Swamp that was nationally syndicated from 1948 until his death. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame.
