Dick Moores began his career assisting on Dick Tracy before contributing to Disney comic strips including Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. From 1959 until his death in 1986, he drew Gasoline Alley, taking over the long-running strip from creator Frank King. Moores modernized the art style and introduced new characters while weaving contemporary themes into the stories. He won the National Cartoonists Society's Story Award five times and received the Reuben Award in 1974.
