Empress Nira of the Night Isles has always been drawn to adventure over administration, preferring a blade to the duties of ruling a vampire kingdom. When a coup strips her of power, she escapes by stowing away aboard the VMS Abyss, a pirate ship commanded by the mysterious Captain Akeyo.
